Spain's second busiest airport is Barcelona's El Prat de Llobregat Airport (BCN).

Barcelona Airport serves mostly the popular tourist destinations all over Spain including the costal regions , but it also connects to many European cities. The airport has 2 terminals: Terminal 1 (abbreviated to T1) and Terminal 2 (T2) which has 3 separate buildings called T2A, T2B and T2C. The biggest and the newest one is T1, finished in 2009. It has 101 gates in its 545.000 m2 are divided into the areas A, B, C, D and E. Terminal 2 (T2), the second most important, has 149.359 m2 with 48 gates and just 30 with finger-docks. It’s subdivided in T2A, T2B and T2C.

It is important that you find out in advance of your trip what terminal you are flying from (or to) Either Terminal 1 (T1) or Terminal 2 (T2A, T2B or T2C) because you will need to allow for up to an additional 30 minute transfer by airport shuttle bus to the other terminal if you arrive at the wrong terminal. The time for the transfer between T1 and T2 is between 10-15 minutes however you may need to wait for the next shuttle bus.

The Aerobus is the express bus service that runs regularly between the airport and the city center. If you are going to Terminal 1 you will need to catch the A1 Aerobus – the published journey time is 25 - 30 minutes. If you are going to Terminal 2 you will need to catch the A2 Aerobus - the journey is published to be 30 - 35 minutes. Buses depart every 6-9 minutes but the journeys can take considerably longer than the published time during rush hour. Both buses look the same, but have different numbers on the front of the bus.

A cheaper and often faster option is the half hourly RENFE C-10 suburban train line calling at Sants, Passeig de Gracia and Estacio de Franca (30 minutes) in the city center where you can change for the metro system. The Train station is based at T2 in-between T2A and T2B therefore if you are arriving at T1 and want to catch the RENFE train into the town center you will need to catch the airport shuttle bus to the Train station at T2 first.

Taxis are available, but can be rather costly and the journey time is more or less the same as by bus. All major car rental companies as well as some local ones are present at the airport, so there are many options for renting a car.
