Sevilla, like most Andalusian destinations, is known for its tapas. There are many great tapas places and restaurants around the foot of the cathedral in the center of town. You can't go wrong, simply order one of everything to find your favorite. Some typical tapas include pulpo gallego (galician octopus), aceitunas (olives), patatas bravas (spicy potatoes) and queso manchego (sheep's milk cheese from nearby La Mancha region). Also be sure to try the ham, which you often see hanging over the bar. Be aware that most of the restaurants kitchen do not open before 20:30 in the evening.
Some bars near the river, offer a nice view but are not as good a deal in terms of the quality of the food. A good deal can more easily be had at less characteristic places. For the most typical and interesting food, choose one of the many bars, especially those that do not offer English menus.
